Terry Rich Launches 100% Certified Organic Cotton Beach Towels.
Terry Rich has included a beach towel made with 100% Certified Organic cotton in its Summer 2009/10 collection. The sophisticated Beluga Beach towel in Black and Ivory is the first product from the label's collection of superior beach towels and resort wear to be produced using 100% Organic Cotton. The Organic towels will be identified by a specific Organic Cotton swingtag as well as via the care instruction label.
The new Organic towels will be available nationally through Australia's premier department store David Jones along with select independent stockists.
"As leaders in the premium beach towel category it is critical for us to continue to innovate with our products and within the category itself in order to drive a positive change," said David Goudie, Terry Rich's Director of Sales and Marketing. "This is a beach towels that not only feels good, but that people can feel good about purchasing." David added.
The Organic Beach Towels were introduced in the most part due to a growing internal sense of responsibility at Terry Rich to help consumers make positive product choices for a more sustainable planet. "Over time we are committed to migrating all of our beach towel production to Organic cotton." commented David. "The 2009 Beluga towel is our first step in this important direction."
Terry Rich will not be passing the additional costs of the organic cotton to consumers, matching the Beluga price tag with the other designs in the label's Summer 09/10 beach towel collection.
About Organic Cotton
Organic farming practices can be used to grow natural fibers including cotton as well as food. Organic cotton farming starts with seeds that have not been genetically modified or treated with pesticides or fungicides. During the growth phase, weed control is achieved through hand hoeing or physical removal and pest control is accomplished through the use of natural predators, trap crops and other biological and cultural practices. Farmers rely on natural processes such as seasonal freezes, rather than the application of chemical defoliants, to prompt the opening of the cotton boll and allow the cotton bud to be picked by hand or machine. From growth through harvesting, the process is monitored according to a set of organic growing standards adopted by governmental bodies including the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the European Union.
