This little Thai island has played host to many a backpacker on a quest for the ultimate party. True, its full moon parties are famous, but there was something special here well before the boppers.
Koh Phangan translates roughly to Sandbar Island. Nice sandbar to be marooned on. You get there by boat from the city that has become Koh Samui - another nice place but pretty busy and touristy these days.
