Caring for your Terry Rich Beach Towel
Washing and drying
Some care with washing and drying your Terry Rich Beach Towel will reward you with a soft, fluffy towel with bright colours that lasts for many years to come. Where possible warm wash and warm tumble dry your towel. Be careful not to over dry your towel as it will take out the cotton’s natural moisture, making the towel feel rough and reducing the fibre strength. Give your towel a shake after drying to fluff up the terry loops. Do not be excessive with fabric softener as it coats the towel fibres and actually repels water. Also, do not iron your towel as this will also reduce its absorbency.
Pulled threads
Pulled threads may occur if your towel comes into contact with rough or sharp items. Over use of fabric softeners also increases the risk of pulled threads. If you do have a pulled thread DO NOT PULL IT. Simply snip off the pulled loop with sharp scissors. As towels are woven and not knitted, a pulled thread will not unravel the fabric. Trimming a pulled thread will avoid further pulling and will not affect the durability or performance of your towel.
Fluffing or pilling
It is quite normal for a cotton towel, particularly with a long pile, to lint or fluff in the initial few washes. This will diminish with subsequent washes and tumble drying. Remember to clean out the filters of your washing machine and tumble dryer.
Caring for Fine Silk
Dry cleaning and hand washing
We recommend silk garments be dry cleaned to help maintain the original texture of the fabric. Advise your dry cleaner that your garment is silk and make sure they are experienced in silk. Hand washing is also suitable as it is much more gentle than machine washing. Use lukewarm or cool water, mild detergents and never bleach or soak.
Machine washing (Not recommended)
If you must machine wash use a cool, delicate cycle, a mild detergent and wash separately. Unbutton garments and separate colours. Use the shortest spin cycle and use a mesh bag for extra protection.
Drying
Remove excess water before drying by rolling your garment in a towel. Line dry or flat dry, avoiding direct sunlight. Never wring. We do not recommend drying silk in a clothes dryer as the heat can dull and shrink silk as well as cause yarn breaks. If you must use a dryer, use the heatless air fluff setting and always use a mesh bag.
Wrinkles
Minor silk wrinkles should disappear if the garment is hung overnight. Steaming is the recommended method of removing stubborn wrinkles. If a steamer is not available, you may iron your damp silk garment inside out, using the gentle heat setting.
Caring for fine cotton
Caring for fine cotton is easier than its elegance might suggest.
Hand washing
We suggest gently hand washing fine cotton garments with a mild detergent. We also recommend not to bleach or soak fine cotton so as to maintain fabric strength and colour. Wash dark colours separately.
Machine washing
If you choose to machine wash, then a cold gentle cycle is best along with a mild detergent. Bleach is not recommended as it will damage quality cotton fibres over time. If necessary, non-chlorinated bleach can be used with white and ivory cottons only.
Drying
Line dry or flat dry fine cotton. Dry out of direct sunlight to avoid any yellowing of white fabric. Fine cotton can be machine dried, however we suggest using an air setting only. If machine drying, remove garments while they are still slightly damp and hang them to finish drying.
Wrinkles and ironing
Removing garments promptly after washing will reduce wrinkling. Shaking garments out prior to hanging or placing in a dryer will also reduce wrinkling. Ironing will remove creasing. For fine cotton we recommend a very light iron only.
