If you are in Sydney and looking for a bit of nature to leave the buzz of the city behind for while, why not venture down to Congwong Beach in the Botany Bay National Park. This beautiful sheltered cove is perfect for paddling without having to battle the surf. It sits within a mini nature adventure playground on the eastern (ocean) side of the La Perouse peninsula. Boats shelter in this quiet cove when the Nor'easter blows in the afternoon and it s a great place to get out of the wind to lie in the sun.
The approach is via a short little bush track from up on the headland - only 5 minutes walk. Once down there is it usually pretty quiet with plenty of room to layout your towel and relax. Close by in La Perouse you'll find a handful of cafes and food options for lunch. There are also a number of historical significant sites and monuments in the vicinity for those with an eye for history. I have never fished off Congwong, but it looks pretty good to wet a line also - maybe of the evening or early morning before the sun chases away the catch.
